Woman arrested in connection to Miami Beach apartment fire, police say

Mindrey Delgado faces attempted murder charges

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A woman is behind bars accused of starting a fire at an apartment building that left dozens without a home and a man recovering in the hospital with burns to 40 percent of his body.

Mindrey Delgado, 30, was arrested in connection to the apartment fire that happened Friday at 2814 Collins Ave., which resulted in the man suffering severe burn injuries and 60 residents being displaced, according to Miami Beach police.

After numerous interviews with residents of the apartment building, Miami Beach police detectives developed several leads that led to the identifying the alleged arsonist as Delgado, police said.

Police said Delgado confessed to using a torch lighter to set the building on fire.

"Our team did an excellent job in a very short time to identify and arrest the suspect," said Chief Daniel Oates. "The residents can be reassured that with this person in custody, there is no longer a danger to the community."

Delgado faces charges of one count of felony second-degree attempted murder, one count of felony second-degree arson, bodily harm and one count of felony first-degree arson.
