Woman claims Gulfstream Park reneged on promotional Range Rover

Lawsuit seeks to make casino give woman vehicle she claims she won in contest

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – An attorney for a South Florida who claims Gulfstream Park reneged on an August promotional contest to provide a Range Rover to the winner has filed a lawsuit against the casino.

Vicki Wersching said Monday she received one of a limited amount of keys in the mail along with a promotional flyer instructing her to bring it to the casino, place it in a lock and turn it.

"I pushed it in until I got all the way in, I turned it, I opened the door and a siren went off," she told Local 10 News.

About 20 minutes later, she was told by a casino manager that she hadn't won.

"He said, 'Because you jiggled the key when you opened the lock," Wersching said.

Wersching said she was told that of 150,000 keys, only five had been tested to make sure they worked. She became suspicious after being told that casino staff knew who were the five winners.

She said the casino has since requested a sturdier box so that something like this doesn't happen again.

"I think I deserve the car or a cash equivalent at this point," Wersching said.

Instead, Gulfstream Park offered her $500 in credit to use at the casino.

Wersching and her attorney want Gulfstream Park to recognize her as the winner and give her the vehicle, valued at more than $80,000.

"It was only after management got involved that they realized that this was day two of the promotion, that the promotion would have ended on this day and they may have lost out on 29 other days of their investment," North Miami Beach attorney David Kubiliun told Local 10.

A spokesman for Gulfstream Park told Local 10 there would be no comment on the lawsuit.
