Woman dies in Miami Beach house fire

Cause of fire under investigation

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A woman is dead after a fire at her Miami Beach home.

The fatal fire happened Thursday evening at 534 W. 30th St.

Firefighters were called to the neighborhood after reports of smoke in the area.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the home.

Firefighters entered the home and pulled a woman out of the home. Authorities said she died on the way to the hospital.

Neighbor Pat Dougherty has known the victim for nearly 30 years and spoke to her hours before the fire.

"She was supposed to be going to her kids today up in Gainesville," Dougherty told Local 10 News.

The woman was believed to be 100 years old.

"It's not that she died," Dougherty said. "She was old. She had a great life. It's how she died. That's the sad part."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
