Woman dies when car hits her in Fort Lauderdale

Police looking for driver of white newer-model Mazda 6

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A woman was killed when she was struck by a car in Fort Lauderdale, and now police are searching for the driver who hit her.

The crash was reported just after 8 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of East Sunrise Boulevard.

Fort Lauderdale police Detective Tracy Figone said Wendy Cochran, 42, was crossing Sunrise Boulevard when she was struck by a 2014 or 2015 four-door white Mazda 6.

Figone said the car's front bumper hit Cochran, throwing her to the ground.

The driver continued driving east without stopping to help Cochran or to call 911, police said.

Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
