HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A woman who was shot multiple times during an armed robbery Thursday identified her attacker as Walter Luckett, 26, Miami-Dade police said.
Police said Isalia Hernandez, 33, was ambushed about 3 a.m. as she got out of her car at her home at Southwest 304th Street and Southwest 160th Avenue.
Detectives said Luckett demanded Hernandez's purse and shot her multiple times.
"He pulled out a gun, a struggle ensued, according to (witnesses), they heard a yell, (and) that's when shots were fired and she was struck multiple times," Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.
According to an arrest report, Hernandez saw Luckett standing near a stop sign near her home before he approached her.
Police said Hernandez screamed for help and set off her car alarm before Luckett fired multiple shots at her, striking Hernandez in the upper torso area.
Hernandez began light headed and collapsed to the floor, the report said.
A witness told detectives that he saw the suspect jumping over fences in the area after the robbery.
Homestead police arrested Luckett and another man after the shooting in connection with a home invasion that happened just minutes before Hernandez was robbed. Police said Luckett denied any involvement in the home invasion but said that a firearm found in the car he was riding in was his, which matched the gun used in the robbery.
Hernandez was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where she underwent surgery.
Police said she later identified Luckett as her attacker in a photo line-up.
Luckett faces numerous charges, including armed home invasion, armed robbery and attempted murder.
