Woman hospitalized, child injured after hit-and-run

Police searching for silver/gray 2014 Buick LaCrosse

MIAMI – Miami-Dade detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that happened at Northwest 58th Street and 22nd Avenue on Monday evening.

Witnesses said the impact of the crash was so great that the victim's Toyota 4-Runner, with three people inside, flipped on its roof.

Family identified the driver as Eugenia Piedrahita, and said she had just picked up her daughter-in-law Gloria Lemos and Gloria's son, Daniel.

Gloria told Local 10 she was able to crawl out of the crashed 4-Runner through a back window.

"She started screaming for her son because he was caught under. She could only see his head out the window," said relative Brenda Cortes.

Witnesses said people started to run to pull out the boy, as well as Piedrahita.

"They're actually trying to push the truck over, like trying to get the truck up off. It was a lot of people trying to help," said witness NeNe Daniels.

Piedrahita was in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to police.  On Tuesday morning, however, her condition was upgraded to stable and she was set to be released from the hospital.

Detectives are on the lookout for a gray or silver 2014 Buick LaCrosse.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
