Woman shot, killed in Miami apartment

Police spokeswoman says shooting may have stemmed from argument

MIAMI – A woman was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in Miami.

The victim, identified as Gretchen Miranda, 48,  was found inside an apartment on Northwest Ninth Street in Miami's Overtown neighborhood about 1:30 a.m.

Police said a woman believed to be Miranda's girlfriend shot her to death after an argument.

Witnesses said they heard one gunshot.

"I just heard one shot, boom," neighbor James Charles said.

The single gunshot heard from apartment No. 9 rattled the nerves of neighbors, and altered the rosy perception about the tenants inside.

"I don't know what caused this, because every time I've seen them, there's been nothing but kindness, respect and they're great," neighbor Shantasia Miller said.

Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene.

As police scoured for clues at the apartment complex, a pair of Miami detectives were processing a red Toyota Camry driven by the suspect. She was taken into custody for questioning.
