Woman who died after being pulled from Biscayne Bay identified

Police say Essi Puhakka came from Finland on work visa

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A woman who died after being pulled from Biscayne Bay last week has been identified.

Miami Beach police Detective Vivian Thayer said Essi Puhakka, 27, was found floating in the water Friday morning.

Thayer said she was spotted by some boaters who pulled her onto their boat, called 911 and attempted CPR.

They were met by paramedics at the Mount Sinai Medical Center seawall. Puhakka was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Thayer said Puakka was in South Florida from Finland on a work visa.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of death, and toxicology reports are pending.
