Woman remains in hospital after dog attacks her in Lauderhill

Dog involved in attack euthanized

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Police have identified a woman who was attacked inside a Lauderhill apartment Monday by at least one of her three dogs.

Yasmin Adam, 43, was visiting from South Carolina and was alone inside her nephew's apartment when at least one of the dogs attacked her, Lauderhill police Maj. Rick Rocco said.

Adam's nephew came home to find the dog attacking her and called police for help.

"They found the dog actually attacking this woman inside of her apartment, attacking her arms," Rocco said. "The officer tried to use pepper spray to stop the attack. That didn't work, and the officer had to discharge her firearm at the dog."

Police said they tried pepper spray to get the dog off of Adam, but eventually had to shoot the dog.

Adam had severe injuries to both of her arms and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. She underwent surgery and remained at the hospital Tuesday in critical condition.

"The nephew is the one who saved her life," Stephanie Colon, a neighbor, said.

Broward County animal control officials said the dog that was seen attacking Adam was euthanized. Adam's other two dogs remain in the care of animal control.

Rocco said the breed of dog isn't known.

A reason for the attack is also unknown.
