MIA4MLS, UM team up for stadium design

Architecture students to design soccer-specific stadium in downtown Miami

MIAMI ā€“ Newly announced MIA4MLS is teaming up with architecture students at the University of Miami to design a soccer-specific stadium in downtown Miami.

Senior students will work with an upper-level design studio during the fall, then make final presentations on Dec. 2, according to the group's website.

MIA4MLS joins MLS Miami Bid as another group working to bring MLS back to South Florida. The Miami Fusion F.C. played its last season in Fort Lauderdale in 2001.

Alessandro Butini, a former partner at The Children's Investment, told the Ultras Alive Show that he spoke with MLS commissioner Don Garber about a team and hopes to have one playing in Miami by 2017.

Former England star David Beckham is also reportedly considering Miami as a destination for his MLS team. When Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy in 2007, his contract gave him the option to purchase a franchise.
