MIAMI - A Major League Baseball player was arrested Sunday night in Miami after he choked and threatened to kill a valet attendant, police said.

Delmon Young, 30, faces a battery charge after the alleged incident at the Viceroy Miami.

According to a Miami police report, Young grabbed valet attendant Javier De La Vega by his neck and started to choke him after the attendant refused to let him into an elevator to a club at the Brickell hotel.

De La Vega told Young that the club was closed, but Young became irate and said, "Stupid Cuban. Open the (expletive) door. I'm here. Now what?" the report said.

Young walked away, but returned moments later, demanding that De La Vega open the door.

After De La Vega repeated that the club was closed, Young told him, "I'm gonna (expletive) kill you, you Latin piece of (expletive)," the report said.

Young then reached over the valet podium and placed his hands on De La Vega's neck, but the attendant was able to break free and ran for help, the report said.

Police were called and went to Young's condominium, where they knocked on the door. Young opened the door, naked from the waist down, so one of the officers asked him to get dressed, the report said.

Young "was unsteady on his feet and spoke with slurred speech," the report said.

Police said Young was belligerent and told an officer, "I'll slap you in the face with money, you (expletive) Cuban."

Young, who most recently played for the Baltimore Orioles, has had a similar run-in with the law. He was arrested in New York City in 2012 after police claimed that he yelled anti-Semitic epithets during a fight at his hotel.

The free agent outfielder, who has also played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
