Loved ones attend wakes for 2 victims of boat crash that killed Jose Fernandez

Family, friends gather to say goodbye to Eddy Rivero, Emilio Macias

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Mourners remembered the life of Emilio Macias -- one of the three victims who was killed in a boat crash Sunday that took the lives of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and Eduardo Rivero -- during a service Tuesday.

"Vibrant personality, really funny guy, " Julio Sobron said about Macias. "He always wanted to make sure that if you were in the group, he wanted to make sure you were having fun."

Macias, 27, graduated from G. Holmes Braddock in 2009. That’s where he struck up a friendship with Rivero, 25, and the pair eventually became like brothers.

"He was going places. I mean, he had grown so much in his career. He was on the cusp of doing really good things," Sobron said.

A service also took place for Rivero on Tuesday.

"He was so, he was a cool kid. He was just such a good person, so it was very tragic to hear what happened," former co-worker Andreina Paredes said.

Rivero’s brother-in-law, Glenn Soriano, had trouble describing the loss.

"It’s horrible," he said. "His mom and my wife are devastated. "
