Marlins fail to sweep Nationals as Fish lose 8-3

MIAMI – The Marlins could not hit Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer for most of the night as the Nats avoided the sweep with an 8-3 victory on Wednesday.

Scherzer was shutting down the Fish until the seventh inning when Christian Yelich hit a solo home run into the upper deck, marking Yelich's 20th homer of the season.

Derek Dietrich later added a two-run home run in the seventh inning, but those were the only runs the Marlins would produce. 

Scherzer earned his 18th win of the season.

Ryan Zimmerman hit a big three-run home run for the Nationals in the fourth inning that gave them a commanding four-nothing lead over Tom Koehler who fell to (9-12) this season.
