Miami Dolphins head to Bahamas to deliver building supplies after Hurricane Matthew

Another Fins relief mission scheduled for Friday in Haiti

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The Miami Dolphins are a team known for their contributions and charitable work, and Thursday was no different.

To help victims of Hurricane Matthew, members of the organization boarded a plane for the Bahamas on Thursday to help with the relief efforts. Ā

Among those who boarded the plane from Fort Lauderdale was safety Michael Thomas, team president Tom Garfinkel and senior vice president Jason Jenkins.

The group headed to Freeport to deliver building supplies and to visit some areas affected by the hurricane.

Local 10 News reporter Sanela Sabovic spoke with Thomas, who is currently on his bye week with the team. But instead of relaxing during his time off, he decided to help those in need.Ā

"Me and my wife, every time we get a chance to give back to the community, we try to," Thomas said. "So once this opportunity came up to go to the Bahamas, you know, give back for hurricane relief, we were like, 'OK, that's a no-brainer.'"

"To be able to go out to the Bahamas for the day, engage, assess, see what's going on. We're going to bring a lot of building supplies that we had shipped over earlier this week, so we'll see what they need," Jenkins said.

Another relief mission will take off Friday as members of the organization head to Haiti to deliver medical supplies, water and generators.
