According to a Miami Beach police report, Elam was driving his Range Rover recklessly on Pinetree Drive, speeding and swerving in and out of lanes, when officers attempted a traffic stop. Police said Elam accelerated "without making any attempt to pull over."

Eventually, Elam "decided to stop his vehicle after traveling several blocks," ignoring police lights and sirens, the report said.

Detectives said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and saw a "big cloud of smoke" coming from Elam's vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, detectives found a Gucci bookbag on the driver's side floorboard, the report said. Inside the bag was Elam's identification, a plastic bag containing more than 126 grams of marijuana, six oxycodone pills, a gold Rolex watch, a gold necklace and a gold bracelet.

Elam faces charges of possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance. He also faces a charge of reckless driving.

Three passengers in Elam's vehicle were also arrested. Police said one of the passengers had a gun.

Elam was an All-American safety at the University of Florida, where he recorded six interceptions and five sacks during his three years with the Gators. The Palm Beach Gardens native was a first-round draft pick of the Ravens in 2013.

He was being held on a $15,500 bond.
