DAVIE, Fla. -

The playing status of Mike Pouncey has reportedly taken a serious hit.

The Dolphins Pro Bowl center was expected to miss four to six weeks of action following offseason hip surgery, but a report in the Miami Herald says that Pouncey may now miss the first eight weeks of the regular season.

When Dolphins training camp opens on Thursday, Pouncey will be on the physically unable to perform list.

The third-year veteran underwent surgery in June to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

According to a Herald source, Pouncey's rehab from the procedure would carry into late October.
