Sean Taylor among 2015 inductees into University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame

Star safety fatally shot at home in 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The late Sean Taylor is among this year's inductees to the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.

Taylor, who was a star safety for the Hurricanes from 2001-03 and was selected fifth overall by the Washington Redskins in the 2004 NFL Draft, was fatally shot during a botched burglary at his Miami-area home on Nov. 24, 2007.

The Pro Bowl safety will be honored during a banquet Thursday night at Jungle Island.

Taylor was killed after five intruders traveled from Fort Myers to Taylor's Palmetto Bay home to steal money, believing he was out of town.

All five suspects have been convicted in Taylor's death.

Other former Hurricanes to be honored include Taylor's teammate, linebacker Jonathan Vilma (2000-03), defensive end Kevin Patrick (1990-93), defensive end Rusty Medearis (1990-94), linebacker Winston Moss (1983-86) and assistant football coach Rob Chudzinski (1996-2003).
