Miami Beckham United will not build parking for soccer stadium

Soccer stadium will cost about $200 million: Miami Beckham United

MIAMI – Miami's new soccer stadium will seat about 25,000, but will not include parking garages, a Miami Beckham United's partner said Thursday evening.

The Major League Soccer stadium is expected to cost about $220 million, Miami Beckham United's Timonthy J. Leiweke said during a meeting held near the site, 650 NW 8th St., which remains under negotiation.

The seating area will have a roof, but the field will not. This, Leiweke said, will mean a better quality turf.  The investment group did not have a rendering yet.

Miami Beckham United claims there are already 7,000 parking spaces in the area and the Metrorail station, which is three blocks away from the site, will be enough.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and County Commissioners Bruno A. Barreiro were at the meeting to listen to Leiweke say that they will not be requesting any tax breaks and will instead be providing opportunities for the needy neighborhood.
