MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A bicyclist participating in the Critical Mass event hit a pedestrian in Miami Beach on Friday night, according to police.

Miami Beach Police officers responded to the incident  at 71st Street and Bay Drive West -- near the John F. Kennedy Causeway.

Police said the cyclist was unable to avoid an elderly pedestrian. The cyclist stayed at the scene until paramedics and officers arrived. 

Critical Mass is an event meant to raise awareness on the dangers of cycling in South Florida.
