Driver of scooter killed in 'gruesome' crash that shut down I-95 at Stirling Road

FHP says man thrown from scooter, run over by 2 other vehicles

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A man was killed early Friday morning in a crash that shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 at Stirling Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man driving a motor scooter was traveling north on I-95 when he was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Cruze. The driver was thrown off the scooter and run over by two other vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"It's a very gruesome scene," FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky told Local 10 News.

The victim was later identified as Willie Hill, 47, of Fort Lauderdale.

His body was covered by a yellow tarp in the middle of the highway.

Wysocky said Hill's scooter was pinned under the tractor-trailer that was the first to run him over.

Traffic was backed up for miles after the fatal crash.

Northbound I-95 reopened to traffic shortly after 10:30 a.m., more than seven hours after the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
