Turnpike reopens after Miami-Dade police take 1 into custody

Source says officers involved in standoff with 'emotionally disturbed' man

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A suspect is in custody after Florida's Turnpike was shut down for hours in both directions Thursday in southern Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police said they shut down the Turnpike about a quarter-mile north of exit 2. All lanes reopened by 6 p.m.

Police sources told Local 10 News reporter Liane Morejon that Miami-Dade police were responding to reports of an "emotionally disturbed" man when they encountered him on the Turnpike and a standoff ensued.

The man, identified as Troy Sibila, 45, was taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m.

No other details were immediately released.
