Julia stays intact across Central America, may spawn new systems
Julia, which made landfall early Sunday on the Caribbean side of Nicaragua, scooted quickly across the rugged terrain of Central America Sunday, emerging over Pacific waters by Sunday night largely intact as a tropical storm, becoming only the third Atlantic-Pacific crossover storm to keep its name on both sides since the tropical cyclone naming rule took effect in 2000.
Julia strengthening on approach to Central America
The disturbance weโve been following in the Caribbean โ dubbed Invest 91L โ is taking a familiar track south along South Americaโs northern shoreline like other systems weโve tracked this season, including the disturbance that became Bonnie back in June and more recently the tropical wave that later became Hurricane Ian.

Meet the fresh face of autism awareness: Julia, from 'Sesame Street'
For fans of Julia, the 4-year-old Muppet with autism on โSesame Street,โ you are in luck. Autism Speaks, a national advocacy organization that sponsors research and conducts awareness activities, has launched a new campaign in conjunction with "Sesame Street" that features Julia and aims to promote early autism screening. The campaign consists of digital, print and resources available in English at ScreenForAutism.org and in Spanish at DeteccionDeAutismo.org. The content highlights the importance of early screening. โThere is considerable work to be done in overcoming obstacles that may delay a diagnosis -- the first step toward improved future outcomes,โ said Angela Geiger, CEO of Autism Speaks.
