Elisabeth Hasselbeck will keep enjoying 'The View'

Barbara Walters squashes reports that conservative co-host is leaving

Joy Behar is out, but Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters will remain on "The View" as it was announced live on air Monday morning, squashing all weekend rumors.

Walters, who is executive producer of the daytime talk show, took up the issue right out of the show open following reports last Friday that Hasselbeck's conservative views were too much for viewers and that ABC would not be renewing her contract after nine seasons.

"The truth is, we love Elisabeth.  I like her personally and she's just a wonderful person.  But byond that, we value and appreciate her point of view.  It's important to us because Elisabeth helps to give this show perspective and balance," Walters said.

The veteran news woman also said she would be sticking around as well.

Behar, however, is the co-host who is leaving the show after 16 seasons to pursue other projects.

"It was very bittersweet.  I want what is best for you," Walters said about Behar's decision to end the show.

Behar will stay on through August.
