While the valet attendants were helping the woman with items in the trunk of the Lexus, a man jumped in the car and rammed his way out of the busy hotel driveway, police said.
During his escape the man struck four pedestrians, all of whom were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police said one of the victims remains in serious condition.
The man also damaged four other vehicles that were parked at the valet ramp as he aggressively made his way onto the street, where he fled the scene in the woman's heavily damaged vehicle, police said.
Miami police officers and detectives arrived at the hotel afterwards and gathered information about the man. Although investigators were able to identify him, the man's identity was not released to protect the integrity of the investigation, according to Miami police.
The stolen Lexus was found abandoned and damaged at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at 632 SW 11th St. in Little Havana.
Police said the man was taken into custody Wednesday night. Police believed they knew who the carjacker was because he has carried out similar crimes in the area.
