Family asks for help solving fatal nail salon shooting

Aaron Vu shot, killed at Nail Hong-Kong

MIAMI – The great-aunt and uncle of a 10-year-old boy killed in a robbery asked for help finding his killers.

Surveillance cameras captured two men storming into Nail Hong-Kong late Friday. The robbers snatched a purse and one opened fire as they ran out the front door, hitting Aaron Vu and his father, Hai Nam Vu.

"Help me. Help me find the bad guy," said the boy's uncle, Loc Ma. "Please help us find the human who did a horrible thing like this."

The boy was pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital. His father remained in critical condition Monday when family members told him that his oldest son had been killed.

"He went into shock," said the boy's great-aunt, Thi Pham.

Pham said her nephew, Nam Vu, was a former U.S. Marine and hard-working businessman. She and Ma described the boy as a child who enjoyed the outdoors.

"Two days before his death, he called my sister and he said I want to come back to Oregon and I want to bring my little brother and sister so they can see the mountain," said Pham.

Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers is offering a $25,000 reward, hoping it'll motive someone to cooperate with police.

"Let today be the day that we turn the tide in this community against this coward's code called no snitching," said Dick Masten with Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.

"Without this closure, this wound will not heal," added Pham.

Neighboring business owners expressed their outrage over the shooting Monday. At least one planned to leave amidst the violence.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
