Fair trade jewelry company donates 10 percent in October

MIAMI Fair Trade Designs sells handcrafted sustainable jewelry. Their "Tagua Tiara Cuff" comes in two colors: The "Marina" and the "Fiesta."

The $32 bracelet is about two inches wide and feels and looks like it's made out of ivory. But it is made out of Tagua nut, the seed of a rainforest palm tree that grows in Colombia.

Artisans dry the seed, use vegetable dyes for color and hand-carve the seed into the shapes that make up the bracelets.

During the month of October, Fair Trade Designs promises to donate 10 percent of the sale of each cuff to the Breast Cancer Research Fund, which the Charity Navigator rated at a low two stars.
