13 Cuban migrants make landfall in the Florida Keys

BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – Cuban migrants who were on board a homemade wooden vessel made landfall in the Florida Keys Thursday morning.

According to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Thomas G. Martin, Border Patrol agents, along with officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a maritime smuggling event near Big Pine Key.

Upon arrival, they discovered 13 Cuban migrants who made landfall on a homemade wooden vessel.

The migrants were then taken into federal custody.
