Man shot at nail salon asks for helping finding son's killers

Aaron Vu killed, Hai Nam Vu injured in shooting

MIAMI ā€“ A 42-year-old man whose son was killed during an armed robbery at the family's nail salon spoke to the media Tuesday afternoon.

Surveillance cameras captured two men firing gunshots while running out of Nail Hong-Kong last Friday. Aaron Vu, 10, and his father, Hai Nam Vu, were shot.

The boy died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

"We hope my son's death will not be in vain," said Nam Vu, 42. "The question I ask every night since I've been in the hospital is why. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't it have just been me? They killed an innocent child."

Earlier in the day, detectives questioned a subject who may have been involved in the robbery though no charges have been filed.

"No family should have to go through such pain and agony like what my family's going through," said Nam Vu.

Police arrested one of the men suspected in the shooting Tuesday. Anthawn D. Ragan, Jr. was charged Tuesday night with Aaron's murder.

Following Monday's plea from the Vu family to help find the two men, Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers upped the reward for any information leading to their arrest to $25,000. Since the reward was raised, sources say police have received more than 100 tips, the largest response anyone can remember.

The community gathered Tuesday night to remember Aaron Vu after Nam's plea for their help finding the killer.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
