Nail salon slaying suspect charged in 2nd murder

Anthawn Ragan Jr charged with first-degree murder in shooting at Motel 7 in North Miami

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The man accused of killing 10-year-old Aaron Vu during a robbery at a nail salon faces charges in a second murder case.

Police arrested Anthawn Ragan Jr. on November 26, his 19th birthday. Investigators say Ragan and another man opened fire inside Nail Hong-Kong, hitting the boy and his father, Hai Nam Vu.

According to North Miami police, on Nov. 1, Ragan and another man killed 21-year-old Luis Perez outside Motel 7 at 13445 NW 7th Avenue.

"You can see them getting out of the car and then you will see them as they are walking through the walkway firing their guns at the victim," said Major Neal Cuevas.

Ragan has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a violent, career criminal.

Police say the duo and a getaway driver left the motel in a 1999-2000 model, dark-colored Nissan Maxima. The sedan had a sun roof and the chrome "Maxima" label was missing from the back of the car.

"He obviously is cold hearted, cold blooded, and just has no qualms whatsoever taking someone's life," said Cuevas.

Vu's family offered no comment Thursday. The boy's father was recovering at home.

Anyone with information on the motel shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

North Miami police have also linked Ragan to a robbery at Arnold's Royal Castle on Nov. 9. , and Miami police have linked him to a robbery at a convenience store on Oct. 23.
