Sick Liberty City Elementary School students taken to hospital

School official says child shared ADHD medicine with other students

MIAMI – Children from a Miami elementary school were transported to the hospital after ingesting a fellow student's medication Friday morning.

A total of six students from Liberty City Elementary School were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

All of the students were alert and conscious when they were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

A Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesman said a boy shared his own ADHD prescription medication with other students.

The drug was identified as Toluidine Blue.

Laquesha Fulwood, who lives near the school, said she heard about what happened and walked over to take her daughter home.

"It's totally ridiculous for children to be able to reach, you know, get to these things and be able to bring it to the school and give it to other children, putting other children in harm's way," Fulwood said.

Another parent, Janae Brown, said she wants to know how the children were able to get their hands on the prescription drugs.
