Seminoles on social media have fun with Hurricanes-bashing hash tag

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – As Pokemon fever sweeps the nation, Florida State football fans seized the opportunity to poke fun at their state rivals to the south on social media with a trending hash tag.

The hash tag is an obvious reference to Miami's "The U" brand made popular by players during Miami's heyday.

In less than four hours, the hash tag was being widely used by Seminoles on Twitter and Facebook to take part in the fun.

Among the topics carrying the hash tag were Hillary Clinton, LeBron James, the Los Angeles Rams, the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, former Florida football coach Will Muschamp, Jason Bourne, Cleveland and the Big East Conference.

Even the author of this article took part in the fun. How could a Florida State alumnus resist?

The origin of "The U" hand motion actually originated during a Miami-Florida State game in 1992, when a Miami cheerleader introduced the tradition while the school's band played.

Pokemon was a popular Japanese video game in the 1990s that spawned an animated series, movies and trading cards.
