Officials: ‘Exceptionally intense’ fire breaks out at Lauderdale Lakes furniture store

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — Firefighters battled a blaze at a commercial building near State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes Monday morning.

Sky 10 flew over the building, located at 3849 NW 19th St., at around 10 a.m., where smoke could be seen coming from the roof.

After arriving at 9:30 a.m., firefighters “were met with very heavy smoke coming from the business specializing in retail furniture sales,” Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said.

Officials reported a partial roof collapse at the building amid the “exceptionally intense” fire.

Noon report:

“While the building was occupied at the time of the fire, workers were able to self-evacuate and suffered no injuries,” Kane said. “In addition, an eye-witnesses described several contractors on the roof performing roof work shortly before the fire started but it is unknown if their presence was a contributing factor to the fire. They were also able to evacuate successfully.”

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control after about an hour, Kane said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
