Fans celebrate 4 decades of ‘Miami Vice’

MIAMI — Fans of the iconic 1980s police drama “Miami Vice” are gathering in Miami Beach for the second annual Miami Vice Week, celebrating the show’s fashion, music and crime-filled storytelling that made it a television trendsetter.

The event features appearances from original cast members, screenings of episodes, and a display of the world’s largest collection of original Miami Vice memorabilia.

Attendees from across the globe have come to relive the show’s neon-lit, fast-car aesthetic.

Olivia Brown, who played Detective Trudy Joplin, said it’s “surprising that something I did so long ago, people still love.”

Bill Smitrovich, known for his role as Detective Scotty Wheeler, said the show’s legacy continues to bring the community together decades later.

The series, which debuted in September 1984 and ran for five seasons, helped launch the careers of actors including Don Johnson, and introduced viewers to future stars such as Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller and Liam Neeson.

Miami Vice Week will run through Sept. 14 with events including a “Bad Guy Brunch” and museum tours. Fans can also stream all episodes on Peacock.
