Two South Florida restaurants were ordered shut last week following consumer complaints.

At Ciro’s Italian Deli & Restaurant in Davie, officials found dozens of live roaches crawling across several parts of the kitchen.

Roaches were seen under prep tables, inside a microwave in use, behind the cook line, and even on a soda dispenser. Inspectors also noted mold-like buildup on cutting boards and can opener blades, food debris caked on equipment, and filthy floors and walls behind cooking stations.

In North Miami, Au Bon Gout Restaurant was hit with 20 violations, including roach droppings in storage areas and bathrooms, and live roaches near food and prep tables.

Small flying insects were spotted hovering over uncovered fruit, and one employee was seen prepping food outside.

The kitchen had standing water, grease buildup, and no certified food manager on duty. A follow-up the next day still turned up live roaches on the prep line.

Both places mentioned were allowed to re-open following an ordered cleanup and re-inspection.

“Floor not cleaned when the least amount of food is exposed. -Observed accumulation of old food residues build on floor and walls behind cooking equipment at cook line. -Observed accumulation of dirt buildup on walls throughout kitchen and pizza station.”

“Interior of oven/microwave has accumulation of black substance/grease/food debris. -Observed accumulation of old food residues build inside microwave.”

“Unclean building components, attachments or fixtures. -Observed accumulation of rust and dust buildup on fan motors in walk in cooler.”

“Hand wash sink used for purposes other than handwashing. -Observed sanitizer bucket stored inside hand washing sink at wait station. Repeat Violation.”
