Man surrenders to police after stabbing

LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A 61-year-old man who was accused of stabbing a woman several times in Lauderhill was at the Broward County main jail on Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale, records show.

According to Sgt. Parys Thomas, a spokesman for the Lauderhill Police Department, police officers responded to a house at about 6:15 p.m., on Saturday, along Northwest 12 Street, between 58 and 56 Avenues.

Derrick Woodard was at the Broward County main jail on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale after a woman was stabbed on Saturday at a house in Lauderhill.

Lauderhill police officers found the woman injured inside the house. Lauderhill Fire Rescue personnel also responded and took her to the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Thomas reported on Saturday that her condition was critical.

Derrick Woodard later surrendered at a Lauderhill Police Department station. Inmate records show he is facing charges of premeditated murder, and attempting, soliciting, or conspiring to a first-degree felony. Corrections was holding him without bond.
