According to BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis, deputies responded to the Dania Beach Elevate Apartments in the 600 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard shortly after 1:45 a.m. after receiving reports about a “suspicious incident.”

St. Louis said deputies arrived in the area and found a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was also located and was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

6 p.m. report:

“We’re sitting here wondering if we’re safe or not -- that’s pretty much the issue,” Avy Vengal, who lives in the building, told Local 10 News. “Inside, there’s 30 officers in the leasing office.”

Worrisome tenants left the building with little answers as they described being woken up at 2 a.m. to a startling alert.

One resident, Santiago Moreno, went as far as barricading his door with a sofa.

“It sounded like when you punch a wall -- very, very hard,” he said.

Another resident, Cicely Williams, told Local 10 that she exited her apartment unit and saw blood in the hallway.

“I was on the eighth (floor) and she was on the eighth -- they have the whole thing roped off, and I was like what, there’s blood every where,” Williams said.

Audio from BSO dispatch paints some of the picture about what occurred.

“The call is advising the neighbor is yelling for help, possibly in 812, advising banging on something and hearing a male yelling at a female,” a dispatcher said.

Detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

St. Louis said detectives confirmed that there are no immediate threats to the community.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
