LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A boy nearly drowned in Lauderdale Lakes Monday morning, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

It happened at around 10:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Northwest 22nd Court at a home neighbors said was under construction.

A witness said the grandmother of a young boy, aged 4 or 5, asked her for help finding her grandson.

5 p.m. report:

He was found floating in a pool. The witness said the boy’s grandmother tried to jump in and save him, but she too had difficulties in the water.

Neighbors then helped both her and the boy, whom one neighbor, Victoria Fradestin, performed CPR on.

“I went to the back and the grandmother was in the pool actually drowning and I jumped in to save the grandmother and the baby was already unresponsive floating,” Fradestin said. “Somebody else saved the baby, took him out of the pool, and I just performed CPR.”

Fradestin said she remembered the CPR training she obtained to receive her security license.

“He has a faint pulse now,” she said. “At first he was unresponsive, but by the time they got him into the ambulance, he has a pulse now.”

He was taken to a local hospital. Authorities have not provided details about his condition.

BSO deputies are investigating the incident. Questions remained Monday over how the boy was able to gain access to the home.
