CORAL GABLES, Fla. — At Ponce De Leon Middle School, Stephanie Campos said she was ready to welcome her students on Thursday in Coral Gables.
It will be the first day of 2025-26 classes for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest district in the country.
Campos was a student at the middle school. She said she is looking forward to teaching theatre and debate, available at the school for the last nine years.
“It’s being that communicator, it’s being that risk taker, stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things,” Campos said.
Angela Gonzalez, the school’s principal, shared her excitement. She was encouraging parents to join the Parent Teacher Student Association and to sign up to volunteer.
“It is a partnership,” Gonzalez said. “Without both entities, it’s extremely challenging.”
Campos had an encouraging message for students: “Be brave, be confident, try new things, and have a great year!”
