MIAMI — A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking that occurred last month outside lounge in Allapattah.
Pedro Oscar Vazquez Quirindongo was arrested Wednesday by Miami police and is facing one count of armed robbery with carjacking, jail records show.
According to an arrest report, the incident happened around 5 a.m. on July 27 outside Republic Food and Lounge, located at 1260 NW 36th St.
A woman had just entered her friend’s parked vehicle when a man approached from behind, pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her, and demanded her belongings, the report stated.
Police said the suspect forcibly removed a gold chain from the victim’s neck, took the keys to the vehicle, and drove off westbound in the victim’s friend’s car.
Officers responded to the scene and confirmed that the car was later located unoccupied near Northwest 10th Avenue and Northwest 49th Street using GPS tracking. It was later recovered and processed by authorities.
Surveillance footage obtained the next day showed the suspect wearing a black shirt over a white undershirt, red shorts, black shoes, and a black beanie — which he pulled over his face just before the robbery, police said.
On Monday, police said they distributed a “need to identify” flyer featuring a still image of the suspect.
Two days later, on Wednesday, an officer said they spotted Vazquez Quirindongo near the 1600 block of Northwest 35th Street and recognized him from the flyer.
They said he was taken into custody on separate charges and transported to the central station for questioning.
After being read his Miranda rights, investigators said Vazquez Quirindongo admitted he was the person in the surveillance footage but denied involvement in the robbery.
His bond information wasn’t immediately available.
