FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A man wanted in an early August shooting in Fort Lauderdale was booked into the Broward County jail on Monday. Court documents obtained by Local 10 News on Wednesday reveal that he had been captured in the Omaha, Nebraska area.
And it’s not the suspect’s first time facing serious charges here in South Florida.
Bakari Dixson, then 21, was once accused of involvement in a 2023 drive-by shooting on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach. Records show charges were later dropped.
Now 23, Dixson is accused of opening fire and shooting a woman after a birthday party in Fort Lauderdale, then carjacking a chauffeur and forcing him to drive away from the scene.
The shooting happened at around 7:20 a.m. on Aug. 3 in the 800 block of Northwest First Avenue.
Investigators said Dixson, of Miami, approached two women after a birthday party being held at an Airbnb and asked if he could get a ride home.
The victim, who knew Dixson only by his Instagram handle of “2woothree,” told him no “multiple times,” police said.
The victim and two other women got into her car and Dixson followed, entering the “vehicle against her will and demand(ing) she take him home,” court documents state.
The victim told him to get out and Dixson threatened to slap her, police said. Authorities said after one of the other women told him she was going to get her cousin, Dixson “lifted his shirt and brandished a black firearm that was in his waistband.”
Authorities said one of the women got out and Dixson tried to slap her, leading the victim to pepper-spray him.
He then shot her three times in the chest, police said. She would be taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
According to police, a chauffeur told investigators that he had picked up Dixson and five others from Pembroke Park and when it was time to leave, saw the altercation and shooting.
Detectives said Dixson then got in the chauffeur’s vehicle with the gun and Dixson’s friend, who wasn’t identified in court documents, demanded that he get in and drive.
Meanwhile, according to police, Dixson held the gun on the center console while demanding that the chauffeur “not stop and drive out of the area quickly or else he would shoot him.”
Investigators said the driver took them back to the Condado Real apartment complex at 5100 SW 41st St., dropped them off, then immediately called 911.
Details about Dixson’s arrest in Nebraska weren’t immediately available, other than that he had been extradited from the Douglas County Jail. It also wasn’t clear why Broward prosecutors dropped the case against him in the 2023 I-95 shooting.
Court records show that at the time of his latest arrest, he was on probation in Broward County for grand theft after authorities accused him of involvement in a group armed robbery of a hip-hop promoter’s $78,000 Audemars Piguet watch sometime after attending an event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.
Now facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault, Dixson was being held without bond in the Broward Main Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
