Safety tips
- Seek shelter when you hear thunder and stay in shelter for at least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder
- Never shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm
- Get out of bodies of water during a thunderstorm. Since lightning can travel through a building’s plumbing, avoid bathing, showering, or contact with water during a thunderstorm.
- Stay away from objects that conduct electricity. Since lightning can travel through electrical systems, do not use anything connected to an outlet during a storm.
- Since lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring, don’t lie or lean on concrete floors and walls during a thunderstorm
