MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Gardens police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning at an apartment complex.
According to a police officer at the scene, the shooting occurred shortly after midnight at an apartment complex off Northwest 191st Street and 27th Avenue.
A witness told Local 10 News that the incident started as a fight between a group of young men or juveniles before someone pulled out a gun and shot one of the males.
“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, I said Oh My God,” one resident told Local 10 News.
Police later confirmed that a white male had been shot multiple times. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the victim, who is an adult, was airlifted to the trauma center at Jackson North Medical Center.
The shooter fled the scene on foot, police said.
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene later in the morning as detectives were seen going in and out of one unit.
“I don’t ever see security on this side,” another resident said, explaining that the complex has long-standing safety concerns.
One longtime neighbor said, “I have been here 17 years and the gate it never worked. The front and the back.”
No other details were immediately released by police.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami Gardens Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
