MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Things have been calmer in Miami Beach in recent nights following a string of violent evenings during springs break. The Clevelander hotel and bar was back open Wednesday after shutting its doors several days ago over safety concerns and the wave of violence seen in recent weeks. Additional new video of a different case showed Miami Beach police take down of an accused rapist Saturday night. AdMitch Novick, owner of the Sherbrooke Hotel on 9th Street and Collins Avenue said he was following the crowd, dispersed from Ocean Drive, just before the arrest. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A much more toned-down Clevelander is back open Wednesday on Miami Beach, after the Ocean Drive hotspot voluntarily shut down last week over safety concerns for its workers and patrons. “We will, I will and my colleagues will, police to bad behavior — not to race, not to ethnicity,” Debra Martineau, a neighborhood resource officer for the Miami Beach police, said at the meeting. Earlier this week, some Black community leaders questioned whether race is playing role in the increase of police activity during spring break. Ad“Rather than make a push, we’re sort of just let the crowd fizzle out,” Miami Beach Police Deputy Chief Wayne Jones said. The numbers are expected to be slightly fewer than this past weekend.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A South Florida entertainment staple is re-opening its doors to the public. According to The Clevelander Management Team, the venue wants to provide a place for people to safely enjoy spring break, “instead of simply congregating on the streets.” The statement went on:“As such, we want to do our part by programming low-key day time events and ambient level entertainment at the Clevelander over the next few weeks of Spring Break. “If you try to come in with a firearm to the Clevelander, you will not be able to get in. If you don’t have a mask, you’ll be asked to leave,” said Clevelander Attorney Alex Tachmes. They’ll enjoy themselves, and we think that it will be a safer environment for everyone.”RELATED LINKSMiami Beach restaurants impacted by COVID face new obstacles with 8 p.m. curfewMiami Beach officials announce 8 p.m. curfew, causeway closures to control spring break crowdAdIconic South Beach bar temporarily closes to protect staff after wild spring break nights

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Businesses in Miami Beach are taking the safety of their employees and clientele into their own hands. On Friday, the Clevelander restaurant and bar announced they will be closing until at least next week for safety reasons because of the wild spring break crowds. Miami Beach Police say they’re doing everything they can to keep people safe as spring breakers have caused violence and chaos along the streets of South Beach. Officers then detained at least three people, and Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel responded to help the few who were injured. “We put the measures in place to curb any criminal activity, to tame the crowds, and to encourage the people who are here to behave responsibly,” explains Rodriguez.
