August 20: Smoke lingers over parts of South Florida, scattered showers possible Thursday

Smoke from a wildfire burning in the Everglades lingers over parts of South Florida Wednesday evening, particularly Broward County where an Air Quality Alert is in effect late-night through Thursday morning. Vulnerable individuals should limit time spent outside.

There still may be some haze/smoke in the area Thursday as west-southwest winds could direct more smoke toward parts of metro Broward and Palm Beach counties. That aside, prepare to dodge scattered showers and storms. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s with heat indices topping 100°F.
