MIAMI – Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, expression and community, and one Miami hotpot is taking that celebration to the next level.
If you’ve ever been to R House in Wynwood, you know it’s more than a restaurant.
At R House, the mimosas are flowing, the wigs are tall and the message is louder than ever.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, what you have on. It’s about celebrating love and fun,” R House Director of Operations Avyeon Campbell said.
This year, they’re rolling out themed events all month long from a Beyonce Cowboy Carter-inspired drag pageant to a Papi brunch on Father’s Day.
“It’s going to have a sexy swimsuit runway show -- both men and women -- so something for everyone to come and see,” Campbell said. “Friday the 20th, we’re going to have Drag Race All Star Aja coming in -- she’s going to headline our show that night.”
And if you really want to learn the art of drag, there’s no better teacher than Miss. Wynwood Pride 2024 – FKA Twink!
“I’m a little bit sad because I’m giving up my crown, but I am so happy to finally let another queen come forward and step up to the plate and show Wynwood drag excellence,” FKA Twink said.
FKA is known for high energy performances.
“The first thing that I prioritize whenever I perform is for everyone to have fun. I love to pull up anyone to perform and dance with me,” FKA said.
Even as drag shows face new scrutiny across the state, the folks at R House say it remains a place that mixes fun and freedom.
“We make it a space where we want to express joy,” Campbell said. “A part of that joy (is) we want to entertain folks, we want to celebrate the special events of your life.”
“I hope to see you guys here at R House during the month of June. Please come and kiki with us. Love you guys,” FKA Twink said.
This year, there will be surprise celebrity appearances, speed dating, live art nights and a Pride finale brunch to remember.
On Friday night, FKA Twink will host the Yass Queen Lip Sync Battle.
