Broward County court records show the domestic violence victim in the case is a woman who is married to BSO Deputy Steven M. Nesbitt and is the mother of their two children.

On Sept. 24, the woman showed a Plantation detective a video that she said she recorded on May 19 that showed abuse in front of their daughter, according to the arrest report.

“The victim stated that she was in fear for her personal safety due to past unreported incidents of physical violence against her by Steven,” a detective wrote in the report.

Broward County Circuit Judge Susan L. Alspector is presiding over the felony case with the Plantation Police Department. The video showed the victim wanted to get out of her daughter’s bedroom during the abuse, but Nesbitt didn’t let her, records show.

Broward prosecutors filed the case against Nesbitt on Wednesday for charges of third-degree felony false imprisonment and first-degree misdemeanor battery.

After an investigation, a judge issued a warrant for Nesbitt’s arrest, and police officers served it on Thursday. Broward County Circuit Judge Corey Friedman found probable cause for the charges on Friday and set his bond at $7,500.

Corrections booked Nesbitt at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. BSO reported Nesbitt was under a suspension without pay.
