Man accused of pointing gun at parent in car line at Broward school

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A South Florida man was arrested Thursday after he pointed a gun at another parent in the car line at his child’s school in Broward County, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 3:20 p.m. at Central Charter School, located at 4515 N. State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes.

According to the suspect’s arrest report, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the school about a road rage incident/verbal altercation in the car line at the school which resulted in one parent pointing a gun at another parent.

Police said a description of the suspect’s vehicle – a red Toyota Tacoma with a Tampa Bay Buccaneers license plate – was given to deputies and they pulled over the vehicle in the 3900 block of Northwest 19th Street.

Deputies said the driver, Gromyko Sugino Gannel, 39, of Lauderhill, was immediately detained and deputies recovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun that was confiscated as evidence.

Grannel was arrested on a charge of possessing a firearm on school grounds.

According to his arrest report, he refused to speak with detectives about the incident.

As of Friday afternoon, Grannel remained held at the Broward Main Jail in lieu of a $1,000 bond.

Further details about the dispute between the two parents were not mentioned in Grannel’s arrest report.
