MIRAMAR, Fla. — Researchers have found a genetic link between gut disorders and endometriosis which is a condition that affects roughly one in ten women of reproductive age in the U.S.
Dr. Taralyn Sowby, with the Center for Gynecologic Oncology, said observational evidence of almost 190,000 women suggested that those with endometriosis are at higher risk of having certain gastrointestinal conditions.
“There is a definite link we’ve known that before we didn’t know about the genetic link prior, so this is an exciting new discovery or re-discovery that we can see that there may be a genetic link between the two inflammatory disorders,” Sowby said.
Endometriosis can cause cysts, severe cramping, heaving periods and infertility.
BRAIN CHIP MAY BENEFIT PARALYSIS PATIENTS
Elon Musk has announced a potential breakthrough in treating paralysis.
For the first time, his company Neuralink, has implanted a brain chip in a human.
Neuralink’s goal is to help patients with paralysis communicate by connecting their brain to a computer.
People paralyzed from a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or spinal cord injury can benefit from the new chip.
The F.D.A. approved Neuralink for human tests last May after years of testing on animals.
