3 taken to hospital after reported explosion at Hard Rock Stadium

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An explosion reported at a concession stand inside Hard Rock Stadium left three workers hospitalized Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

It happened just after 3 p.m. near the 300 block of Don Shula Drive.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, hazmat units were requested due to reports of a gas smell at the scene.

Authorities confirmed two workers were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, one by air rescue and the other by ground. The third victim was taken to a local hospital by private ambulance, according to MDFR.

Sky 10 flew over the scene just after 3 p.m. where one of the workers, who had visible singe marks on his shirt, was transported on a gurney to a nearby hospital.

Hard Rock Stadium released a statement to Local 10 News Thursday, which you can read here:

“This afternoon, an incident occurred in a concession stand on the club level of the stadium. Three workers sustained injuries and have been taken to a local hospital for further care. The cause of the incident was quickly identified and extinguished. There is no further threat and no expected impact on the Dolphins game Friday evening.”

A Hard Rock spokesperson confirmed to Local 10 News that the incident occurred at a concession stand at the stadium’s club level.

Authorities did not disclose the age, gender, identity or condition of the victims and the cause of the explosion is unclear at this time.
