Residents return to Siesta Key as some roads open, others remain flooded

SIESTA KEY, Fla. — Residents in Siesta Key returned to the island on Thursday after powerful Hurricane Milton moved through.

The eye of the storm passed over the area late Wednesday night.

While there was damage left behind, many residents felt fortunate that what they found wasn’t as bad as what they had feared.

3 p.m. report:

Tactical crews first went onto the island to check the roadways and make sure it was safe before residents were allowed back in.

Some streets remain flooded and streetlights are out, so divers are proceeding with extreme caution.

There is still a massive cleanup effort underway, as many roads are littered with debris and sand left behind by the storm surge.

This picturesque tourist spot is still standing strong, as residents are eager to get back into their homes and get back to everyday life.
